Meet Dylan Hedrick

Hello my fellow Garland neighbors,

My name is Dylan Hedrick, and I am the Councilman-elect for Garland City Council District 7. Garland is a great city in which to live, work and play. However, the city we all love is facing many challenges in its immediate future. Water rates and taxes are increasing while our city road and parks are in desperate need of additional funding.

I am a leader who is willing to make the hard decisions to keep the city moving towards prosperity and who is not afraid to challenge the status quo. I have a proven track record of working with city officials and listening to citizens. I am a person of unquestionable integrity who serves his community. As your council representative, I will help guide Garland on the path to progress; a path in which all residents and businesses can thrive.

As a native Texan who moved to Garland three years ago from Maryland, I am happy to be back home. Although I may not have grown up here or lived here as long as many of my neighbors, I immediately fell in love with the city and its people. The diversity of cultures, perspectives and ideas make Garland an ideal place to live and raise my family. I am a dedicated family man to my wife Katie, who is a professor of mathematics at SMU, and my two daughters.

I am a registered professional civil engineer (TX #102108) who works for Halff Associates, Inc., a local engineering firm. I earned my BS in Civil Engineering from Rice University in 2004, then returned to Rice and earned my MBA in 2011.

I served as First Vice Chair of the Garland Plan Commission (before resigning to run for Council), President of the Oakridge Neighborhood Association, and I recently chaired the 2018-2019 Garland Bond Study Committee. In the community, I volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Garland’s Code Care’s program, and serve as an usher on Sundays at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

In my free time, I enjoy running around my neighborhood, lifting weights in my home gym, playing my Fender Strat, building my vinyl record collection, and chasing my daughters around at the park.

I invite you to get to know me personally as we work together to make Garland the best place to live and do business in the Metroplex. Please contact me by phone at (469) 560-6099 or by email at dylan@hedrickforgarland.com.
